Types of Data

Critical Data

Information which cannot be replaced, the loss of which would have a catastrophic effect on the operation of your business. eg MYOB, Customer Database, Personnel & Tax Records etc

Non-critical Data

Irreplaceable non-critical data which, if lost, would inconvenience you, but would not be disastrous for your business. eg Some email, Desktop sttings, etc

Replaceable Data

Non-critical data which are replaceable such as Operating System, and other applications. eg Windows, MS Office, Printer Drivers etc
Backup Level Required



ALL information in this category must be backed up daily (more frequently is available). It must be an automated process, and the backup must be checked daily.



Any data in this category should be backed up regularly, but not necessarily daily. Copies made should be stored offsite.



While it is not essential to backup this type of data, not having it available will mean delays in recovering from a major crash, whether that be from a Hard Drive failure, or Virus etc.
